Swan Reach Observatory
The Swan Reach Observatory is home to a world-class telescope, located in the heart of the Mid Murray’s internationally recognized River Murray Dark Sky Reserve. With some of the clearest, darkest skies in South Australia, Swan Reach is the perfect place to explore the wonders of the night sky.
Why
Swan Reach?
In 2019, the Mid Murray region was accredited as Australia’s first International Dark Sky Reserve — one of only a handful worldwide. This recognition inspired the creation of the Swan Reach Observatory, giving visitors a chance to enjoy astronomy experiences normally reserved for major research facilities.

PlaneWave CDK700 Telescope
At the core of the Swan Reach Observatory is the Planewave CDK700, a world-class research-grade telescope. Designed for precision and clarity, it captures stunning deep-sky images and enables advanced astronomical research under the pristine dark skies of the River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve.
